Matthew J. Cutter
Professional
Being a mutual company means Northwestern Mutual reports to its clients, not Wall Street. Matt ’s position aligns with Northwestern Mutual’s - he doesn't believe in chasing fads or taking undue risk for short-term gains. Instead, Matt takes a long-term approach—both in the way he helps people plan to reach their goals, and in the way he does business.
This approach has served his clients well through all kinds of economic ups and downs, including wars, recessions, even the recent pandemic.
Matt's practice is focused on providing a unique financial planning experience by first understanding his client’s goals, values and priorities.

Personal
Matt grew up in Needham, MA and graduated from Ithaca College. An undergraduate major in Finance led him to a career at Northwestern Mutual. Some may say his father, a 25-year veteran of Northwestern Mutual, may also have had something to do with it.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys marathon running (he’s completed seven!), hiking, and playing golf. Spending time with his family and traveling are extremely important to Matt. He currently lives in Needham with his wife Dana, daughter Sophia, and sons, Charlie and Samuel. Dana and Matt are both active volunteers in numerous charities - most notably, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Anti-Defamation League.
